What a full, relaxing weekend I had. So more than half of my creative San Diego crew has left for Burning Man. God Speed, children. God Speed. At least, I think thats what that new hallucinogenic is called. No matter. Party till the break of dawn and track some playa dust back my way, baby, because I am jones-in for a fix or a whiff of the burn. Sigh, quiet town.
Let me recap some weekend events for you on this Glorious Monday. I saw the new Margaret Cho movie, laughing loud and hard throughout. That woman is FUNNY. I also like what she has to say about the world and the fact that shes a fruit fly. Wonderful.
I bought some new CDs, my choice of music this weekend a testament to my eclectic nature. What does Barbarella pay money for in the record store? Ive heard this one at Spider Monkeys, and it is both great chill music and as she says, perfect fuck music. We listened to it a lot last summer (all the summer girls), mostly in an inebriated state, and it was always enthralling, so, I had to get it . Oh, Peter Gabriel, your sounds of the earth move me.
I was ecstatic to run into the second CD in my purchase trilogy, a combination of two albums into one, my favorite woman, Nina . This one has the 10 minute version of Sinnerman, a song I loved half a decade ago, lost, and have not found until now. Tragically alone, Nina belts out raw emotion, lugubrious lamentations, blind hope and vulnerability, and she is never rewarded for any of this in her songs. I love this music, because its how I used to look at love. I both appreciate it for something Ive felt and understand, and for the realization that I am no longer that lonely, pining person.
Now, for the CD that brought me to the store in the first place, Eminem . Read the blurb on each song after you follow the link. Why do I like this album? Political statements, freedom of speech, and the Cleaning out my Closet song. In that song, he brings up the past with his mother. Such pain, such hate, such torment I got goosebumps the first time, and the second, my eyes grew wet with emotion.
My taste in music is like my taste in life: vibrant, loud, challenging, emotional. At least, it is for now.
Oh, I got sidetracked! I also spent a wonderful day with my nephew, the most adorable thing this side of cupid. My life is... beautiful.
