WooHOOOOO! YEAH!

It was my intention to update this yesterday, you know. To write about the last week, the parties I've been to, the things that I've seen, all of it in colorful detail. I have a million things I want to touch on, friends and lovers, life in general, my usual introspection. But that was before yesterday. Before 10 hours in a cozy hospital room with all of my sisters, as we laughed and joked and cried, as Heather was in labor. We all stayed for the delivery. What WAS there, before there was this little miracle, this beautiful little baby boy? I have a nephew!!! First grandchild for my parents, for Heather's in-laws as well. Holy shit, holy amazing Mother Nature, my God. I've never been overwhelmed with such joy before. Such immediate and unquestionable love, such happiness. Placed in his father's arms, this beautiful specimen stopped crying and merely watched the new Daddy's face as he was whispered to with a familiar voice (Sean has spoken and sung to Heather's belly for the last 4 months). We got it all on tape.

"Keep me away from the wisdom which does not cry, the philosophy which does not laugh and the greatness which does not bow before children." -- Kahlil Gibran (mystic, poet & artist, 1883-1931)

Heather was such a trooper. Hardly a groan with the nearly debilitating contractions before she finally received the epidural. For the 2 hours of pushing that came later, we the sisters waited in the waiting room. After all of the magazines and newspapers were separated by genre, the cushions fixed and our neuroses on the verge of looking for another outlet, we were called back in to witness the miracle. Wow. I can't say it enough. Wow.

So, what else have I been up to? Shit, it's hard to remember, I've been out every night for the last few weeks just about, so much going on in San Diego, so much to do, so many people I want to see. The other night, I accompanied Bunny to a local bar to meet some of her friends and witness the introduction of the candidates for this years Miss Princess Royale San Diego. The beautiful and talented drag queens performed, and the festivities were followed up with an evening of karaoke, which Bunny swiftly took over. An ethereal voice and years of professional experience (I'm still impressed with the singing with David Bowie part, but not as impressed as I've been just hearing her solo, with only a CD in the background playing back up to her), she was the star of the bar. We met new people, danced and laughed, and had a grand ol' time.

The night before that, I went to a surprise birthday party for a friend, something that Cabana Boy had a big hand in organizing. Fun and wonderful, and then to a new bar (which is officially my new hangout, I believe), the Silver Dragon. Why did I love it? Well, the owner (Heath) lit the bar on fire (yes, flames, REAL fire) as industrial and classic metal blared from the speakers, I met and exchanged numbers with several cool-looking people, I just loved the look and feel of the whole place. Betty Page look alikes, spiked hair, leather and metal, plaid skirts, red lipstick, slicked hair. Fun times to be had, so I'll be back there, I'm sure. After the bar, an after party at the Stanton Residence, complete with birthday girl and porno clips. I crashed out there and had a lovely, relaxing Sunday (aside from some residual vertigo from my crazy evening).

The night before that? Let's see, backtracking, bactracking... that would be Friday, wouldn't it. Ah yes, a gallery opening, a meeting with friends, downtown in the Gaslamp, a beautiful woman dancing on implanted grass that was placed on the sidewalk. After which Bunny and I headed to an empty bar, met up with my sister, and then hung out until 4am or so, when we decided to spontaneously go to another friends' house, some guys we know, and hook up with them and Kitty. Ooh la la. I was home around dawn, not too bad, if you ask me. And the night before that? Hmm, yes, that's right. Calexico at the Casbah. Great band. Good friends, and a stop by Pixie's before heading home. That day, I had walked around the park and hit up the museums with Bunny. Beautiful weather down here, you know.

Everything's great, everything's fun, and now I'm an aunt. This other stuff I want to talk about, ask about, this stuff in my mind about friends and lovers, about right and wrong, about obligation versus responsibility and so on, well, I'll be at a computer again tomorrow! So stay tuned, and in the meantime, congratulate my family for the production of a happy, healthy and very loved little boy. We done well, and he even has my ears.
